Diwali - Celebration of Life

DIWALI …festival  of lights,  life and love All the children in my neighbourhood Carried a lamp to the home next to theirs Greeted all the members of the family Giving a sweet smile and a joy unknown Young and old come out of their homes To see the lighted lamp spread around As a chain of stars in a galaxy Luminating a society, a nation, a world. Marvelled by the sight, the old removed from their pockets One a penny, two a penny to buy sweets for many a child Sweets seller at the shops reciprocated in love Sharing the joy giving away sweets without charging a penny. Sweets in their hands ….. smile on their face The old shed the gold inspiring the young The young raised by the spirit moved around To find the meaning of a great Diwali. They found out, Diwali is lighting a lamp at your door step To lighten the path of any and many who pass your way. Sensing the need of others giving away Feeling the joy of giving rather than the burden of receiving.   Diwali – festival of lights in an array Festival of smiles on the face of old and young Burning not the money away, but Burning the selfishness all the way of  pride and jealousy.   Not killing the lives of young and old Promoting not the child labour in the society But allowing all children to smile and have “enough” Enough of love, enough of education, enough of food, enough of cloth to wear and tear. Wastage in no way but prestige in every way Respect and honour to all  at reach Poor and rich – no caste – no creed – no colour But love personified in persons formed by divine touch. Diwali is “divine” on earth Dividing sorrows and shadows Dispelling darkness and ignorance Dancing with the light of freedom to live a better tomorrow. Diwali that sparkles good will Diwali that crackles fine melody Diwali that defines the value of life Diwali that glisten heaven on earth.
