All through the day and night I found her toiling

Along with the wake up call I heard her
sweetly humming a song invoking God’s blessings
Then I saw her cleaning up the courtyard
Gently arranging the rooms in order
And well decorating the Altar.

Then she moved like a flying disc to the kitchen door
Opened the treasures of the kingdom one by one
Pots and pans….milk and rice….vegetables and pulses
Gas cylinder on, fridge open, taps on….
Spoons and knives at hand
Sprinkled masalas, boiled water, cooker whistled away.
Husband and children heard the wake up call
And sat up to sip the bed coffee
No one bothered to ask, “ Darling, Ma, have you sipped a sip?”
For they knew that she is she who has ability and utility.

One b one got ready – brushing, bathing ,dressing
All the items were provided in a serial order
To the Sweet Heart, Chubby cheeks, Dimple chin and Rosy lips
And all got ready and sat up at the table for breakfast
Zoom came mother of the universe
With hot parathas, coffee and a sweet dish.

Soon out of the gate waving hands of “Good bye” they set out
Into their world of ambitions, dreams, and desires.
She looked up and saw the clock that forgot to strike her time
She carried the plates and clothes and utensils
Dragged herself through all the place setting all that were beset.

She too set out to her office
As  the modern world can’t afford to keep any one at home
without getting a “PAY”
Files and pen, computer and stationery
Boss and colleagues all set to arrest her vision so poor
For her mind wandered around her children and husband
Who might reach home early
And may find her work not completed.

She sighed and said, Let me be born again as a man
To feel free to enjoy the beauty of nature
Read the news paper, sip a cup of tea, sit and relax
And go the office and find everything intact.

No sooner she set her table and chair
The phone bell rang, “Mamma, Happy Women’s day.
I love you, Pappa loves you, Chubby loves you, Dimple loves you
Bye Mumma, sweet kiss and a flying kiss”.

Before she could reach the file there rang the phone
“Sweet darling, Happy Women’s day…..i couldn’t wish you at home
As you and me would have been late for the office, I love you.”
Returning to the former self she found herself unable
To believe that she is indispensible.
